Donald Trump Sues IRS and Treasury for $10B Over Leaked Tax Return Documents
Former President Donald TRUMP has initiated a $10 billion lawsuit against the Internal Revenue Service and the U.S. Treasury Department, alleging negligence in safeguarding his confidential tax information. The legal action stems from the unauthorized disclosure of his 2019 and 2020 tax returns by a former IRS contractor, Charles Littlejohn, who is currently serving a five-year prison sentence.
The lawsuit, filed in a Miami federal court, contends that the IRS and Treasury failed to implement adequate security measures, enabling Littlejohn to access and leak sensitive financial data. Littlejohn pleaded guilty in 2023 after admitting to providing Trump's tax records to media outlets. The Treasury Department subsequently terminated its contract with Booz Allen Hamilton upon discovering the breach.
Trump's legal team argues that the agencies' systemic failures demand significant financial restitution. The case highlights ongoing tensions between government transparency and taxpayer privacy, with potential ramifications for future handling of high-profile financial disclosures.
